EUT Upsizing Example
Stingray CO., LTD
The Access files which Inforce originally produced for Stingray, succeeded in dramatically improving performance, thanks to Upsizing to a SQL Server system.
Stingray is a company that produces a movie portal site. Using a movie database, the company offers a service that provides general information about movies, and makes those movies available to their website users. They also offer information which is similar to other relevant movie databases like those from MSN or YAHOO’s movie portals.
● Access Limitability
”I have been managing Stingray’s Access database as the Planning and Production Chief for a period of around 10 years. We realized some time ago that the company required a functionally superior system, covering all our processing needs, because our number of users (often more than 100,000 at a time) and the amount of data we were dealing with were increasing. Inforce was happy to make a system to satisfy this request, and implemented the system step-by-step.
As our system suffered damaged each time it was overloaded and crashed, it was evident that the 2GB limit of Access was insufficient for the site’s growing popularity. Inforce provided hardware specifications to us, with the intention of assisting to realize a faster operating system. After much analysis, it was determined that simple system backup would be insufficient, but the solution to our issues was to not change the existing system, but rather improve operability with a SQL Server”.
● There were no existing vendors performing Access Upsizing
Part of Stingray’s dilemma was that there were no vendors which could address their issues in an ideal way. As it is difficult to simply reproduce an existing Access system without discarding the related software, Inforce contemplated how best to solve these problems, using a method that would somehow preserve the current Access database.
We knew that there was a method to do so, as observed at a Microsoft seminar in Tokyo a few years earlier, performing Upsizing to Access. Being a participating lecturer at the seminar, Inforce was inspired to become a specialist in in this area of Upsizing, examining the process and finally in September 2008, introducing this service to clients like Stingray in Japan.
● Dramatically Improving Business Efficiency through Upsizing
“With Upsizing performed, we were very satisfied with the results. Speeds being very important, the changes in operation were immediately apparent, as the system database improved remarkably allowing for a significant increase in processing efficiency. Even when accessing the site from home and noticing a problem, it is great that with this type of system, corrections can be made in-house and on the spot.
Access is really good software! It is easy to use and great for developing a highly efficient system”.
